Jeff Vitter's parents A. L. Jr. & Audrey (née St. Raymond) Vitter (grandparent names Père and Mimi) led accomplished lives of extraordinary service and caring for others — a legacy for generations to follow (including many Domers and a killer cookbook!).Academic Genealogy
Jeff Vitter has another kind of family tree: the academic generations created by a teacher who teaches a student how to learn, who in turn becomes a teacher and passes on that knowledge to another student, etc. The cycle continues, as it has since the days of Socrates, his student Plato, and Plato's student Aristotle.
Albert Artigues Jr. & All That Jazz
For the middle part of the 20th century, Albert Artigues Jr. and his cornet were mainstays in the New Orleans jazz scene at night, while he worked at the family business during the days.Après le Aha! moment (et avant aussi!)
As highlighted in the history "The Aha! Moment That Led to This Website," Jeff Vitter made a big breakthrough in December 2000 when he discovered when, where, and how his Vitter ancestors came from Europe to the USA. Much correspondence behind the scenes led up to and beyond that discovery. This history gives an inside look at the correspondences that genealogists engage in and how what we understand grows (we hope!) with time. How the Vitters Got to Clerval
19 years after Jeff Vitter's Aha! moment, Jean-Pierre Vitter resolves the mystery of where in Europe the Vitter family came from originally and how they got to France in the late 1700s.Martin Samuel Weaver: Kansas Homesteader

Rex and Queenie — half-ton cast-iron Newfoundland dogs — have stood guard over Vitter-Artigues homes in New Orleans for about 110 years and have a fascinating (and still mysterious) genealogy of their own.Relativity Research
The underlying theme of our website is research on relativity — our relatives pulsate outward in our time-space continuum in a series of gravitational waves spanning many generations and relationships! This page gives an overview of several family histories, beginning with Jeff Vitter's Aha! moment, which ultimately led to creation of this website. The Aha! Moment That Led to This Website
When Jeff Vitter was growing up in New Orleans, his parents A. L. Vitter Jr. and Audrey (née St. Raymond) Vitter would always tell the family about their trips to France as young children to meet relatives, but they didn't know many particulars beyond their grandparents, especially on my dad's paternal side. Jeff's Aha! moment came when he combined technologies — new and old — to discover how, when, and where the Vitters came to the USA from Europe.Remembering Those Back in Uzan
In the 1800s, the Ferran, St. Raymond, and Cougot families lived around a small village in southwestern France called Uzan (pronounced "u-ZHANG" in the local patois). After emigrating to the U. S. A., they sponsored a monument to those from Uzan who gave their lives during World War I. It stands there still today in front of the city hall.Vitter Holiday Cards Through the Years

Ole Miss is the Flagship University of the state, considered the best-known college in the state with the largest enrollment, just over 23,258. With an annual budget of $2.5 billion, it is also an economic powerhouse.Dr. Jeffrey Vitter Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award Thursday Night Cookin': Mimi's Recipes for a Happy Home
Judge Wendy Vitter put together a wonderful cook book in honor of Mimi's 78th birthday in 1998, entitled Thursday Night Cookin': Mimi's Recipes for a Happy Home. The cook book consists of the family's favorite recipes of Mimi's, along with several bons mots, family trivia, and memories. The name for the cook book came from the family's tradition of having Thursday night dinner at Mimi & Pere's.
When the Vitter kids were younger, a similar tradition existed at Mimi's parents' home at 3539 Napoleon, where Mémère and Pépère would host everyone to Wednesday night dinner, often roast chicken. Jeff liked to make little chicken sandwiches with the chicken, biscuits, and gravy.Le sang qui coule dans nos veines (The Blood That Runs in Our Veins)
Jean-Pierre solved the mystery from 17 years earlier in his report, A tous les Vitter du monde (To All the Vitters in the World), about how the Vitter family got to France. He reveals that Hérard Vitter was actually born as "Erhardus Wider" and came to Clerval, France from Bietingen (near Gottmadingen), Germany, which is on the Swiss border, three miles north of the Rhine River and five miles northeast of the northern Swiss village of Schaffhouse.A tous les Vitter du monde (To All the Vitters in the World)
A comprehensive and entertaining account of the Vitter generations. The story starts with their ancestor Hérard Vitter, who moved from "l'Autriche antérieure" to the town of Clerval in the Doubs region of France in the late 1700s. Hérard's father in the old country was Mathieu Vitter, and Hérard's son Pierre is the one described above who emigrated from France to New Orleans in 1843. Jean-Pierre chronicled many of Hérard's descendants as well as some family legends.Notes of Jean Jacques Artigues and Blanche Artigues Johnson
Email and FAX by Bert F. Artigues to Jeff Vitter, 19–20 April 2004. Typed notes by Jean Jacques Artigues with handwritten notations by Blanche Artigues Johnson. Later annotations on contents by Jeff Vitter.

As highlighted in "The Aha!

It stands there still today in front of the city hall.

NOCC History – The year – 1971
President Albert Claverie addressed a recurring problem: rising operational costs. Again, for the third continuous year, we had a basic wage increase in minimum wages. The Club’s indebtedness stood at $611,000 which was $25,000 less than at the end of 1970. He explained how substantial savings were obtained: By reducing the number of employees and maintaining a constant watch on expenditures, we were able to affect economies in operations without affecting the service and general maintenance of the Club. This year we have set up our own Security Guard Program and have eliminated outside contracts at a great savings to the Club.
Evelyn Monsted returned to the winner’s circle in 1971, when she won the Women’s Golf Club Championship for the 12th time. The Men’s Champion was Monte Bee, who defeated Joe Edwards in the final, 2 and 1.
Among the junior players, Club Championships were won by Tim Verlander (10-11), John St. Raymond (12-14) and Jeff Vitter (15-17). In another junior event, Alan Arnold defeated Paul Maxwell for first honors.
Dr. Bruce Edrington won the Men’s singles title in tennis. He scored a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Peter Michel, who had upset the defending champion, William Holton in the semi-finals. Dr. Edrington reached the finals by defeating Joe Turner, 3-6, 6-1, 6-3.
Jane Desbon won the Women’s Club Championship in tennis.
The NOCC swim team had a remarkable record of eight victories in eight dual meets and won the Greater New Orleans Country Club Class A League. At the swim team awards banquet, Most Valuable awards went to Laura Lane and Eric Johnson. - [S1038] Notes of University of Notre Dame, Letter from Alumni Hall to Jeff Vitter, June 26, 1973.
