On March 25, 1753, The land called "Merry
Peep-O-Day," conveyed to John Hawkins by
King George II, and on which Brunswick was
later laid out by Leonard Smith, was surveyed.
On November 7, 1780, Clement Hollyday sold
the land on which Brunswick was laid out, to
Leonard Smith. The plat was recorded Nov. 9, 1780
On March 25, 1790, Leonard Smith, who laid
out Brunswick on November 9, 1780, died and
was buried in the cemetery of St John The Evangelist Roman
Catholic Church in Frederick City.
