Obituary: David Verlyn Richardson
David V. Richardson, 82, of Parsons died at 4:50 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 27 2012, at Elmhaven West. He had been in failiing health.
He was born April 30, 1930, in St. Paul to Verlyn E. and Flossie M. (Morgan) Richardson. He grew up in St. Paul and attended St. Paul Public Schools.
At age 14 he started working on the Katy Railroad in Parsons and at the age 19 for the Ankortite Co., now Dayton Superior Corp. He retiredin 1992.
In 1950 he enlisted in th U.S. Navy and served two years. Later he was recalled to serve in the Korean War and was discharged in 1954.
David was an avid fisherman and in the 1960s helped organize the Parsons Pony Pulling Association. He loved to travel by car with his wife and to attend horse races in various places. He was a member of the Brown-Bishop Post No.704, Veterans of Foreign Wars. Family was his great priority and he enjoyed supporting his grandchildern's activities.
On August 17, 1950, he married Darlne Fleming in the First Methodist Church of Parsons. They observed their 62nd anniversary late August. She survives of the home.
Survivors include two daughters, Davida Landgraf and her husband, Chuck, of Fort Collins, Colo., and Dana Richardson of Prairie Village, Ks.; three grandchildern, Aaron Landgraf and Logan Landgraf of Fort Collins, Colo., Libby Humbles and her husband, Blake, of Alta Loma, Calif.; three sisters, Vera Aronhalt and husband, Leonard, Katie Moses and her husband, James, all of Parsons, and Audrey Tewell of Pittsburg, Ks.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Bob Richardson; and a sister Helen Peckham.
The service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Carson-Wall Funeral Home. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery in Parsons with military honors given by the V.F.W.
The family will receive friends and family at the funeral home from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday.
