Shelton: Stephen A. Shelton 81, retired Paola plumber and businessman, died Thursday, Oct. 27, 1983, at the Miami County Hospital. He was born Dec. 10, 1901, at Louisburg, the son of Archie and Liza Boren Shelton. He was married to Verna Ring in Paola, Dec. 10, 1923. He made his home in Paola his entire life except for about three years when they operated a grocery store in Overland Park. They returned to Paola and had a restaurant business for about six years on the southwest side of the Square until the early 1940s. During World War II, Mr. Shelton worked at the Sunflower Ordnance Plant at De Soto. After the war he was self-employed as a plumber, retiring in 1969. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Paola. Mr. Shelton liked to fish and raise roses and garden. Preceding him in death were his parents, a daughter, Loree Siso, she died in 1978, and a sister, Gladys Fiskelston. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Verna Shelton of the home; a daughter, Mrs. Dorothey Lee Beets of Overland Park; three grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Bernice Stewart of Paola, and Mrs. Wilma Rand of Tucson, Ariz.,formerly of Paola, and a brother, Raymond Shelton of Topeka. The services were at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at the Wilson & Son Chapel in Paola. The Rev. Howard Curry, pastor of the First Baptist Church, was the officiant. Mr. Elizabeth Wilson, accompanied by Mrs. Marlene Riebe, sang "In the Garden." The burial was in the Paola Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were Kenneth Shriver, Chris Shriver, Mark Shriver, Steve Carter, Jack Carter and David Kermode.
