    • Obituary: Gladys W. Tracy: Gladys W. Tracy, 93, Paola, lifelong resident of Miami County, died Tuesday, Dec. 19, 1989, at the Miami County Hospital. She was born to Almer M. and Minnie H. Koontz Whisner on Aug. 24, 1896, near Fontana. She had lived in the Fontana and New Lancaster areas most of her life. She had made her home at the Country Haven Nursing Center in Paola for the past four years. She was married to Deane A. Tracy on Dec. 27, 1922, in Paola. He preceded her in death Nov. 23, 1978. Mrs. Tracy was a member of the Stony Point Methodist Church near Parker, the Parker Chapter 307, Order of the Eastern Star, and the American Legion Auxiliary of Parker. In earlier years she taught at the Mission, Sunny Ridge, Hawkeye and Oak, Grove elementary schools in Miami County. Others preceding her in death were her parents and a son, Kenneth D. Tracy, who died July 11, 1988. Surviving are a son, D. Duane Tracy of Gardner; three daughters, Leita Broockerd of Overland Park, Leila Kennedy of Olathe, and Twila Broockerd of Kansas City, Mo.; a brother Donald A. Whisner of Paola; three sisters, Ethel Hodgson and Vivian Polhamus, both of Parker, and Thelma Smith of Selah, Wash.; 14 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and several step-grandchildren. Friend may call from 7 to 8:30 o'clock tonight Wednesday, at the Wilson and Son Chapel in Paola. The services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Chapel. The Rev. Jerry Vaughn, pastor of the United Methodist Church of Paola, will officiate. Donna Wehmeier will provide organ selections, which will include "The Old Rugged Cross." The burial will be in the New Lancaster Cemetery. Serving a pallbearers will be grandsons, Larry J. Broockerd, Ronald Broockerd, Roland L. Broockerd, Charles D. Broockerd, Gary Tracy, Gregory Tracy, Dale Kennedy and Alan Kennedy. In lieu of flower the suggests memorials to American Heart or the American Cancer society.
