Mrs. Elizabeth Rankin, widow of George Rankin, died Monday morning. She was 84 years, 7 months old and was born in Ash Grove township, marrying at the age of 16 years. Following the death of her husband 30 years ago she made her home with relatives and of late years with her son, James A. Rankin, who died just three weeks before his mother died. Since James’ death, his widow and her son, Columbus Rankin, cared for her. Mrs. Rankin’s maiden name was Sexson and all her long and useful life was spent in Eastern Shelby. Early in life she united with the Christian church. She became the mother of 13 children, only one of whom, William E., survives here. Also she was the last of a large family but one, Mrs. E. P. Bennett. Other survivors are 16 grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren. Rev. W. I. Griffin conducted the funeral and burial services at Ash Grove church Tuesday afternoon. The singing was by a mixed quartet. Windsor Gazette - 16 Jan 1919
