    • Obituary Milferd C. Miller Milferd C. Miller, 72, lifelong and well-known Paola resident died Thursday, April 16, 1992, at Delmar Gardens Nursing Home in Overland Park. The son of Charles A. and Laura Fort Miller, he was born June 1, 1919, in Paola. He attended the Paola schools and graduated from the Paola High school with the Class of 1936. He served with the Air Corps and Infantry during World War II. He was married to Mildred Morgan in Paola in 1942. She preceded him in death in 1972. He was married to Rachel Hunt Lentz on May 29, 1974, in Paola. Mr. Miller's work career included the Citizens State Bank in Paola and the Paola Butter co. He was a postal worker for the Paola Post Office for 35 years before retiring in 1981. He was a member of the American Legion Miami Post 156 of Paola and had served as the commander and was active in other areas of local Legion work. He had served on the district level and was a National Executive Committeeman in the late 1950's. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Sheldon Banta Post 3712 of Paola and the Paola Rotary Club. He was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church of Paola, where he served as a deacon and clerk of the session. Mr. Miller had served on the board of directors of the Paola Senior Center since its inception until the time of his death. Prior to his illness, he was a member of the Paola City Planning Commission. He was active in the organization of the Paola baseball program. His hobbies included hunting, fishing and golf. Others preceding him in death included his parents and a step-daughter, Sara Sherlock. Those surviving are his wife, Rachel Miller of the home; a son, Clark Miller of Charleston, Va., a step-son Richard Lentz of Phoenix, Ariz.; two brothers, Harold Miller of Paola, and Byrle Miller of Zachary, La,; two sisters, Valeta McDowell of Paola, and Doris Rieth of Jerusalaem, Ark.; two grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; and one stepgreat-grandson. A visitation was from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday at the Wilson and Son Chapel in Paola. Services were at 1:30 p.m. today, Monday, at the chapel. The Rev. Tom Williams interim pastor for the First United Presbyterian Church, was the officiant. Virginia Karr was the organist. Burial was in the Paola Cemetery. Pallbearers were Oscar Durland, Joe Butel, John Lyder, Karl Kelsey, Andy Anderson and Harold Peckman. Memorials have been established in his name to the church, the Paola American Legion or the American Cancer Society.
