Leonard Melvin Nicolay, 94, Topeka, passed away Wed., May 9, 2012.
Leonard was born Aug. 17, 1917 in Lyndon, the son of Alma and Olive Markley Nicolay.
He was a roofing contractor in Topeka since 1935. In 1945, he and Alla Ella Ferris were united in marriage. She survives. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Other survivors include his children, Russell Nicolay, Leonard Melvin Nicolay, Jr., Neva Ozment, Gail Albright, Dixie Gaines, Dan Ogden and Leonard Dean L.D. Nicolay; grandchildren, great- grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Oddlene Gordinier, Betty Spinelli and Melba Goodwin; and nieces and nephews.
Family will greet friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Sun. at Kevin Brennan Family Funeral Home, 2801 SW Urish Road, Topeka KS 66614. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Mon, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints at 1611 SW Jewell. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery, Lyndon KS. Memorial contributions are suggested to the L.D.S. Church for the Missionary Fund.

Alla Marie “Ella” Nicolay, 93, Topeka, passed away Tuesday, March 28, 2017, at Stormont-Vail Health Center.
Ella was born on September 26, 1923, in Osawatomie, Kansas, the daughter of Robert and Florence Phelon Ferris. In 1945, Ella and Leonard Nicolay were united in marriage. He preceded her in death on May 9, 2012. Ella was a wonderful homemaker and she especially enjoyed cooking. She was the matriarch of the household and never let her family forget who was the boss. She wasn’t afraid of anything and lived a life of adventure. Ella attended Washburn University, even up to a year ago. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where she sang in the choir and also was the chorister. Ella was a talented artist, specializing in beautiful works in charcoal. She was a dedicated and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great grandmother and sister. She was dearly loved and will be deeply missed.
Grateful to have shared her life are her children, Neva Ozment, Gail Albright, Dixie Gaines and Leonard Dean “L.D.” Nicolay; grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; sister, Ruth Hilton; brothers, Robert “Bob” Ferris, Elbert Ferris and Eldon “Ray” Ferris; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Ella was also preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Rolland Ferris, Ethel Ewell, Geraldine Tindell, May Jackson, Annabelle Ferris and Ralph Ferris.
Family will greet friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 3611 SW Jewell, Topeka KS 66611, with funeral service following at 11 a.m. at the Church.
Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery in Lyndon KS.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the L.D.S. Church for the Missionary Fund, sent in care of the funeral home.
