Hattie Sophia Harmison Butler Keil When a child she traveled in a covered wagon west to Kansas, and lived there on the prairie, with her parents Rebecca Crist and Samuel Harmison. She attended Normal School, and taught school for a time. When she was 20 years old, she married William Ezra Butler. They moved to Great Bend, Kansas and there they had six children. William worked in the flour mill, and after years of inhaling the flour dust, his health began to fail. They moved to the Oklahoma Territory and clean air. There they added one more to the family, but the flour mill was to claim another victim. Hattie took her husband and baby by train back to Great Bend for medical care, and to be with her mother.William died 31 Oct 1905, and is buried at Great Bend.
She married Reinhart Keil in 1908, he being a widower with ten children. Together they had two more children. He died in 1934. The progeny of the children and step children, at the time of her death were 56 grandchildren, 108 great grandchildren, and several gr.great grandchildren.
During her last few years, Hattie crocheted a lace tablecloth for each of her grandchildren, and pieced several quilts for them as well. She spent several years toward the end of her life, in Yuma, Arizona, with her daughter, Gertrude. When she went back to Montana, she was placed in a nursing home in Great Falls, where she died.
