Peter Aspinwall, the founder of the Aspinwall family in this country, was born about 1612. Peter Aspinwall came from Toxteth Park near Liverpool, England to Dorchester, Massachusetts in the company of 4000 people who immigrated in the year 1630. No other mention of him is made until May 1645 when he was made a freeman in Dorchester, Massachusetts. He was then 33 years old.
In 1650 he moved to Muddy River, now known as Brookline, Massachusetts. He purchased a farm of 150 acres. On this farm, in 1660, he built the house which was the family homestead for many generations. The house stood until 1891 and was located on what is now called Aspinwall Avenue.
Peter Aspinwall was married three times. His first wife was Alice Sharp. His second was "unknown" Morrill, who he lived with for 16 years with no children. His third wife's name was Frember Palfrey, who was our first American grandmother, and it is from her that we are all descended.
Peter and Remember had eleven children, including one set of twins, in this order:
Samuel - November 4, 1662
Peter - June 4, 1664
Nathaniel - June 5, 1666
Thomas - January 21, 1668
Mehitable - September 14, 1669
Elizabeth - November 21, 1671
Eleazar - October 9, 1673
Joseph - October 9, 1673
Job - February 27. 1675
Mary - August 4, 1677
Timothy - April 19, 1682
The number 8 child, Joseph, is our second grandfather.
The exact date of Peter Aspinwall's death is not known, but it was between November 20, 1687, and December 9, 1687. The number of direct descendants of Peter Aspinwall in the 1980s was over 1300 people and has since grown.
