Hi Jeff,
It is great to meet you. I don't often meet connections from my dad's side of the family. I have attached a few Witter photos in case you don't have them.
John Witter and his wife Martha (Patsey) Thompson are great great grandparents to me. Patsey by family lore was supposedly 1/4 Cherokee, however I have no documentation to prove that.
The Witter Dakin picture from what I am told was taken at George Witter's house near Drexel, Mo. My dad (Clarence Long) is the kid in the second row, 3rd from left and his sister Mabel just below on his left. Dad was born in 1913 so guessing a bit I'd say the picture was taken sometime between 1923 and 1925. Again a guess on my part, I would surmise the photographer was Ralph Mettler from Drexel. Ralph ran a studio in Drexel for many years and was a cousin to my Dad via our Allison relatives. All of the people in the photo are related via Witters or Dakins. The man sitting on the far right is Henry Leslie Witter and probably the only Witter I knew personally. His second wife was my first grade teacher in Drexel during the 67-68 school year. His farm was between Drexel Corner and Louisburg on old 69 Highway, east side of the road.
The last photo is John Witter Sr kids, probably taken the same day as the group picture. Across the top are George W Witter, John Witter Jr, and James Thompson Witter. My great grandmother, Cassie Witter Dakin is below, between John and James. The woman to her right is sister Mary Jane. Not sure who is who among the remaining, but I think the far left is Emma and far right is Alice.
I will put some stuff together specifically on Cassie Witter (Nancy Catherine) and her husband John Dakin later on.
Enjoy,
Doug

BTW, John Witter is mentioned in the history (short story) I wrote about my Doubs ancestors in https://vitter.org/familytree/histories/JeanPierreVitter.php.
And my wife Sharon is from Miami County, Kansas, as are your ancestors.
