      I used to have 14 Aug 1873 for his death date, but grave marker clearly shows 02 Aug 1872.

      Matthias (went by Teis or Tice) Sappenfield was the eldest of five known children of John Matthias Sappenfield II (1770-c1850/53) and Anna Catherine (or Mary Anna?) Sechrist Sappenfield (1765-???), who married c1788 in Rowan (now Davidson?) County, North Carolina.

      Teis married Christina (Christena?) Grimes (1793-1858) on 25 Aug 1811 at Rowan (now Davidson) County, North Carolina. Teis and Christina were the parents of thirteen known children, namely:

      2. Absalom Sappenfield (1814-1881)

The names are mostly searchable via optical character recognition. This document is an appendix to the 146-page compilation by Kay F. Sellers entitled "Nicolay: A Preliminary Study of the Descendants of John Jacob Nicolay," 1987. The page numbers in the index refer to the numbers printed on each page. [S512] Nicolay: A Preliminary Outline of the Descendants of John Jacob Nicolay, Kay Frances Sellers, with annotations by Sharon Weaver Vitter, (Name: Self-published; Location: Topeka, Kansas, USA; Date: 1984 (the copyright is 1984, but there are some updates in the following few years);), 21-page set of family tree diagrams of the Nicolay family in Kansas, traced back to Bernard Nicolai/Nicolay (circa 1650–1705) in Germany. Some individuals can be searched for in the pdf file, but unfortunately not all since most of the file is written by hand and not all of it is recognized by optical character recognition. The individuals are labeled by their genealogical ordering (via the Henry or d'Aboville systems), which his the ordering used in the 166-page compilation by Kay F. Sellers, entitled "Nicolay: A Preliminary Study of the Descendants of John Jacob Nicolay," 1987. There are also newspaper clippings about members of the family in the 267-page compilation by Kay F.       Christina (or Christena?) Grimes was the fifth of nine known children of John Carl (went by Charles) Grimes (1761-1830) and Barbara Frank (1761-1826), who married c1785 in presumably Rowan (now Davidson) County, North Carolina.

      Christina married Matthias Sappenfield (1790-1873) on 25 Aug 1811 at Davidson County, North Carolina. Christina and Matthias were the parents of thirteen known children, namely:
