      From Margaret Soniat

arrived in new York in 1824 on ship Montano from Le Havre in the employ of A. Parmenter, a botanist from Belgium.

speculate that John M. Beelman became acquainted with Parmenter, as they had adjoining plots in Brooklyn

in the book "New York Alien residents - 1835-1848" compiled by Scott & Conway, page 7, we find a John M. Beelman of Brooklyn, 11 Feb. 1834

John & Marie came to Gretna, La. between 1840 and 1850 because he was in the 1840 census in kings Co., P. 836, town of Flatbush and in the 1850 census of Gretna.
