Euphrosine was born a slave, daughter of Jane, a slave belonging to
Simon Andry, a plantation owner, with whom Jane established a long
term spousal relationship. Simon subsequently freed Jane and her
children, acknowledgeing them as his; he also distributed his sizeable
estate to them in his will.
Spanish records show that "L'Andry, Euphrosine, a free mulatto woman,
daughter of Simon L'Andry" was given a grant of half a lot on Royal
      Street in Mobile.
Washington County, Mississippi Territory records show that, on 3 May
1805, Simon Andry, "for the consideration of natural love and
affection and other good causes, granted unto Jane, a negroe woman
about fifty years of age and Lucy a yellow girl and Romeo a yellow
man, together with a yellow girl named Euprozile, Maximilian a yellow
boy, Sylvert and Pharly yellow boys of the Mississippi Territory and
County of Washington their freedom forever".
