Notes - Obituary: Margaret Mary Abney: Margaret Mary Abney, 94, lifelong Paola resident, died Tuesday, May 20, 1997, at St. Luke's Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri. She was born Oct. 9, 1902, west of Paola the daughter of Eugene and Ellen Doherty Papst. She was married to Marion Abney on Nov. 30, 1946, in Paola. He died July 11, 1957. Mrs. Abney was a homemaker all of her life. She was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church and its altar society. She enjoyed growing flowers. Others preceding her in death were her parents, two sisters, Anna Grove and Agnes Buchanan, and two brothers, an infant and Ernest Papst. Survivors include two nephews, Joe Papst of Shawnee and Willard Eugene Buchanan of Santa Rosa, Calif.; and five nieces, Bernice Cuthbertson of Paola, Mary Ellen Klapp of Santa Rosa, Calif., Irene Dedrick of Stanley, Ella Marie Elston of Douglas, Wyo., and Mary M. DeArmond of Wichita. A rosary was recited at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Wilson and Son Chapel in Paola, followed by a visitation. The funeral Mass was at 1 p.m. Friday at the church. The Rev. Joe Cramer, pastor of St. Philip Neri Catholic Church of Osawatomie, was the officiant. Judy Jeck and Debbie Winterscheid provided the music. Burial was in the Holy Cross Cemetery, rural Paola. Friends served as pallbearers.
